Purpose of the Role
The Chief Director: Traditional Governance and Conflict Management provides strategic leadership in promoting sound governance within traditional institutions while overseeing the management and resolution of traditional leadership disputes. The successful candidate will guide policy development, strengthen governance frameworks, coordinate conflict management initiatives, and provide executive oversight to ensure the effective administration of traditional affairs across KwaZulu-Natal.

1. Promote Good Governance in Traditional Institutions
Provide strategic leadership to strengthen governance, accountability, and effective administration within traditional councils and leadership structures throughout the province.
2. Conflict Management and Dispute Resolution
Lead initiatives aimed at preventing, managing, and resolving disputes involving traditional leadership institutions while promoting peaceful conflict resolution and community stability.
3. Administrative Leadership
Manage administrative support services within the Chief Directorate to ensure efficient operations, effective governance, and achievement of organisational objectives.
4. Policy Development and Implementation
Oversee the development, implementation, monitoring, and continuous review of policies, regulations, and frameworks relating to traditional governance and conflict management.
5. Resource Management
Provide strategic leadership in managing the financial, human, and operational resources of the Chief Directorate while promoting sound governance and effective service delivery.
Minimum Requirements
Educational and Professional Requirements
Applicants must possess:
A Bachelor’s Degree or NQF Level 7 qualification recognised by SAQA in:
Business Administration;
Business Management;
Public Administration; or
Public Management.
A valid SMS Pre-entry Certificate (Nyukela) offered by the National School of Government (NSG). The certificate must be submitted before appointment.
A valid Code B driver’s licence.
Experience
Applicants must have:
A minimum of five (5) years’ experience at Senior Management level within the field of Traditional Affairs.
