In line with these objectives, the Department of Defence invites suitably qualified and competent individuals to apply for the position of Cleaner: Supervisor at the Army Support Base Potchefstroom in the North West Province.
Purpose of the Position
The Cleaner: Supervisor will be responsible for the effective supervision and coordination of cleaning services within assigned military facilities. The role ensures that all buildings and working environments meet required hygiene, safety, and operational standards. The successful candidate will oversee staff performance, manage cleaning resources, and ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) as well as departmental policies and procedures.
This position requires a dedicated individual with sound supervisory skills, practical experience in cleaning services, and the ability to manage teams in a structured and disciplined environment.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be required to perform, but not be limited to, the following duties:
- Supervise and manage cleaning operations across allocated facilities within the Army Support Base.
- Ensure that cleaning staff adhere to approved cleaning schedules, procedures, and standards at all times.
- Conduct regular inspections to confirm that hygiene, cleanliness, and safety standards are consistently maintained.
- Monitor the availability, condition, and correct usage of cleaning equipment and materials.
- Control and manage inventory of cleaning materials and equipment across various buildings and work areas.
- Order, receive, issue, and account for cleaning materials and equipment in accordance with supply chain and internal control procedures.
- Compile, maintain, and submit accurate cleaning, inspection, and performance reports as required.
- Develop, implement, and review cleaning programmes suitable for different buildings and operational areas.
- Liaise timeously with senior officials and relevant stakeholders regarding operational challenges, risks, or problem areas.
- Manage leave administration for cleaning staff under supervision, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Monitor discipline and manage staff performance in line with the Performance Management and Development System (PMDS).
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements and promote a safe working environment.
- Provide guidance, support, and on-the-job training to cleaning staff where required.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered:
- ABET Level 4 qualification or an equivalent qualification.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ relevant experience in a cleaning services environment.
- Proven experience in supervising or leading a team will be an added advantage.
- Failure to meet the minimum requirements will result in the application not being considered.
Knowledge and Competencies
The ideal candidate should demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and competencies:
- Sound knowledge of cleaning materials, chemicals, and appropriate cleaning methods.
- Practical understanding of cleaning equipment and its correct operation and maintenance.
- Good knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and its application in the workplace.
- Ability to supervise, motivate, and manage a large staff complement effectively.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Good problem-solving, planning, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure while meeting deadlines.
- Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Professional conduct, reliability, and respect for organisational rules and procedures.

- A detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV) must be attached.
- Copies of qualifications and supporting documents should not be submitted at this stage.

Selection Process and Conditions
