The Department hereby invites suitably qualified and competent individuals to apply for the position of Driver / Messenger at Head Office in Pretoria.
Purpose of the Position
The purpose of the Driver / Messenger position is to provide safe and reliable transport services, ensure the secure delivery and collection of official documents, and render registry support services within the Office of the Minister and the Office of the Deputy Minister. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting daily administrative and operational activities to ensure smooth departmental functioning.
This role requires a responsible, trustworthy, and well-organised individual who can work with official vehicles, confidential documents, and senior officials in a professional manner.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidates will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
- Drive light and medium motor vehicles to transport officials, visitors, and departmental personnel as required.
- Deliver and collect official mail, documents, parcels, and office equipment within the Department and to external stakeholders.
- Collect, distribute, and control the movement of official documents in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure that vehicles are roadworthy and in good operating condition.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as checking oil, water, tyre pressure, and reporting defects or faults timeously.
- Ensure that allocated vehicles are kept clean, secure, and well-maintained at all times.
- Accurately complete vehicle logbooks, trip sheets, and other required records.
- Maintain up-to-date trip schedules, including daily mileage, destinations, and purpose of trips.
- Ensure safe driving practices and compliance with road traffic regulations at all times.
- Handle confidential and sensitive documents with discretion and ensure secure delivery.
- Assist with registry support services, including filing, tracing of files, photocopying, scanning, and faxing documents.
- Support general administrative tasks as required within the executive offices.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered:
- Grade 10 certificate or ABET qualification.
- A minimum of seven (7) months’ relevant work experience in driving, messenger, or related support services.
- A valid Code 8 driver’s licence.
- Applicants who do not meet the minimum requirements will not be considered.
