About the Role
Grey’s Hospital seeks a highly experienced Clinical Haematologist to lead the Haematology Unit within the Department of Internal Medicine. The successful candidate will be responsible for: Strategic leadership, clinical excellence and academic commitment to training and research
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver tertiary-level haematology services (in-patient and out-patient) in Pietermaritzburg Metro
- Participate in after-hours Haematology and Internal Medicine coverage
- Provide outreach services and expand haematology care in Area 2
- Perform procedures related to haematological conditions
- Lead development of specialist Haematology services in the hospital’s drainage area
- Manage clinical staff, equipment, and resources in the Haematology Unit
- Coordinate with hospital and district management and the UKZN Department of Haematology
- Drive governance, compliance, and service improvements
- Support sub-specialty Haematology training under the University of KwaZulu-Natal
- Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education
- Promote clinical research and quality improvement initiatives
Minimum Requirements
- Senior Certificate or equivalent
- MBChB or equivalent medical qualification
- HPCSA-registered Specialist in Internal Medicine (Physician) or Haematopathologist
- Certificate in Haematology (SA) or equivalent (if trained outside SA)
- Current registration with the HPCSA as a Clinical Haematologist
- Minimum of 5 years’ post-registration experience as a Specialist Physician
- Experience managing a Haematology Unit
Skills & Knowledge
- Advanced clinical haematology and patient management skills
- Knowledge of human resources and information management
- Familiarity with public sector legislation, policies, and medical ethics
- Understanding of financial and quality assurance systems
- Academic experience in teaching and research
