The Assistant Manager Nursing (Night Duty Services) will be stationed at Ngwelezana Tertiary Hospital and will assume full operational responsibility for nursing services during night duty.
Purpose of the Role
The primary purpose of this role is to provide effective leadership, management, and coordination of nursing and support services during night shifts to ensure uninterrupted, safe, and quality patient care.
The position ensures compliance with nursing legislation, hospital policies, National Core Standards, and public service regulations while promoting efficient resource utilisation, staff development, and patient satisfaction.
Minimum Requirements
Educational and Professional Qualifications
- Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification
- Diploma or Degree in General Nursing that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse
- Registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse
- Current SANC receipt
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of eight (8) years appropriate or recognisable nursing experience after registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse in General Nursing
- At least three (3) years of the above experience must be at a management level

Key Responsibilities and Duties
1. Night Duty Leadership and Operations
- Provide effective and professional nursing leadership during night duty
- Coordinate and supervise the delivery of efficient and effective patient care during night shifts
- Ensure continuity of nursing and support services throughout the hospital
2. Clinical Governance and Quality Assurance
- Ensure implementation and monitoring of National Core Standards
- Improve quality of care through reduction of patient complaints, public complaints, and waiting times
- Monitor infection control, quality control, and information management practices
3. Resource and Staff Management
- Ensure effective utilisation, management, and supervision of all resources during night duty
- Control duty rosters and attendance registers
- Monitor and implement the Employee Performance Management and Development System (EPMDS)
4. Risk Management and Incident Response
- Investigate adverse events and incidents occurring during night duty
- Develop and implement corrective action plans to address identified gaps
- Ensure timely escalation of critical issues to senior management
5. Labour Relations and Stakeholder Engagement
- Deal with grievances and labour relations matters in accordance with prescribed policies and procedures
- Establish and maintain constructive working relationships with nursing staff, multidisciplinary teams, and other stakeholders
