Annual Salary Packages
- Grade 1: R431,265 – R497,193 per annum
- Grade 2: R528,696 – R645,720 per annum

Purpose of the Role
The primary purpose of the Occupational Health Nurse is to promote, protect, and restore the health of employees through effective occupational health nursing services.
The role focuses on the prevention of work-related injuries and illnesses, early detection of occupational health risks, implementation of wellness programmes, and compliance with occupational health and safety legislation. Through proactive interventions, the incumbent supports workforce sustainability and the hospital’s ability to deliver uninterrupted healthcare services.
Minimum Requirements
Grade 1 Requirements
Educational and Professional Qualifications
- Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification
- Diploma or Degree in General Nursing and Midwifery
- Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse
- Post-basic qualification in Occupational Health Nursing (minimum duration of 1 year) accredited by SANC
Experience
- Minimum of four (4) years appropriate/recognisable experience after registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse in General Nursing and Midwifery

- Diploma or Degree in General Nursing and Midwifery
- Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC)

Experience
- Minimum of fourteen (14) years actual service and/or appropriate recognisable experience after registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse in General Nursing
- At least ten (10) years of the required experience must be relevant experience gained after obtaining the post-basic qualification in Occupational Health Nursing

- A Certificate of Service endorsed and stamped by the Human Resource Department will be required only from shortlisted candidates

Key Responsibilities and Duties
1. Occupational Health Service Delivery
- Provide comprehensive occupational health nursing services in accordance with standards and protocols
- Implement preventive health programmes aimed at reducing workplace-related illnesses and injuries
- Promote employee health, safety, and wellbeing
2. Clinical and Nursing Care Management
- Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care plans
- Identify employees requiring medical or nursing interventions and initiate appropriate actions
- Maintain accurate and legally compliant health records
3. Emergency Preparedness and Response
- Participate in disaster preparedness and emergency response initiatives within the institution
- Support health interventions during occupational emergencies
4. Resource and Staff Management
- Manage and supervise the effective utilisation of human, financial, and material resources
- Participate in staff development, mentoring, and training initiatives
- Support student and in-service training programmes
5. Governance, Labour Relations, and Compliance
- Exercise control over discipline, grievance, and labour relations matters in line with policies and procedures
- Ensure compliance with public service and nursing regulations
- Uphold ethical standards and professional conduct
6. Quality Improvement and Reporting
- Implement norms and standards to continuously improve the quality of occupational health services
- Evaluate occupational health programmes and propose improvements
- Promote adherence to Batho Pele and Patients’ Rights Charter principles
