- Grade 1: R359,622 – R408,201 per annum

Purpose of the Role
The primary purpose of the Clinical Technologist (Cardiology) position is to provide specialised, accurate, and reliable cardiovascular diagnostic services that support patient diagnosis, treatment planning, and monitoring.
The role focuses on performing echocardiology investigations, stress ECGs, carotid Doppler studies, and Holter monitoring, while ensuring patient safety, maintaining equipment standards, supporting emergency services, and contributing to departmental training and service delivery.
Through professional clinical practice, the incumbent contributes to improved patient outcomes, continuity of care, and the overall quality of cardiac services within the tertiary healthcare system.
Minimum Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Senior Certificate / Grade 12
- Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Clinical Technologist (Cardiology)
- Professional Registration
- Initial and current registration with the HPCSA as a Clinical Technologist (Cardiology)
- Experience Requirements by Grade
Grade 1
- RSA-qualified applicants: No post-registration experience required for applicants who have completed compulsory Community Service in South Africa.
- Foreign-qualified applicants: Minimum of one (1) year relevant experience after HPCSA registration, where Community Service is not required
Grade 2
- RSA-qualified applicants: Minimum of ten (10) years relevant experience after HPCSA registration and completion of Community Service
- Foreign-qualified applicants: Minimum of eleven (11) years relevant experience after HPCSA registration
Grade 3
- RSA-qualified applicants: Minimum of twenty (20) years relevant experience after HPCSA registration and completion of Community Service
- Foreign-qualified applicants: Minimum of twenty-one (21) years relevant experience after HPCSA registration

Key Responsibilities and Duties
1. Clinical Diagnostic Services
- Render high-quality echocardiology services to patients
- Perform stress ECGs, carotid Doppler examinations, and Holter monitorring
- Ensure patient comfort, safety, and dignity during procedures
- Support clinicians with accurate diagnostic information
2. Emergency and Service Continuity
- Provide 24-hour emergency coverage as required
- Participate in after-hours, standby, and relief duties
- Ensure continuity of diagnostic services during staff shortages or emergencies
3. Teaching and Training Support
- Participate in departmental teaching and training programmes
- Support the training of students, interns, and junior staff
- Promote adherence to best clinical and professional practices
4. Record Keeping and Reporting
- Maintain accurate patient records and diagnostic statistics
- Ensure proper documentation of procedures performed
- Contribute to departmental reporting and audit requirements
5. Administrative and Operational Support
- Perform additional duties relevant to the work environment as allocated by the Supervisor
- Assist in maintaining an organised, compliant, and efficient department
- Support quality improvement initiatives within the clinical technology unit
