Salary and Benefits
Annual Salary Range: R359,517 – R420,402 per annum

Purpose of the Role
The primary purpose of the Public Relations Officer is to ensure the effective management of information and communication within the hospital and between the institution and its stakeholders. The role supports public awareness, promotes patient rights, enhances institutional credibility, and strengthens relationships with communities, media, and partners.
This position plays a vital role in shaping public perception, supporting quality improvement initiatives, and ensuring consistent, accurate, and timely communication aligned with departmental strategies and the national health calendar.
Minimum Requirements
- Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification
- National Diploma or Degree in Public Relations Management
- National Diploma or Degree in Communication
- Media Studies: (NQF Level 6)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years’ recognised experience in a Public Relations or Communication environment
- Recommended (Advantageous)
- Valid, unendorsed Driver’s Licence
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications, including MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Outlook

Key Responsibilities and Duties
1. Internal and External Communication Management
- Manage the flow of information within Niemeyer Memorial Hospital
- Coordinate internal communication to ensure staff are informed of key developments
- Facilitate effective external communication with communities, partners, and stakeholders
- Ensure consistency and accuracy of messaging across communication platforms
2. Media Relations and Public Image
- Support the implementation of the Departmental Media Policy
- Uphold and promote the corporate image of the hospital
- Assist in handling media enquiries in line with departmental protocols
- Promote positive stories and initiatives aligned with health priorities
3. Publications and Quality Assurance
- Participate in quality assurance programmes for publications
- Ensure communication materials meet departmental standards
- Align publications with the Department of Health calendar and campaigns
- Support the development of brochures, notices, and informational materials
4. Events Coordination and Community Engagement
- Assist with coordination of hospital and community outreach events
- Support campaigns that promote patient rights and public awareness
- Strengthen engagement between the hospital and surrounding communities
- Collaborate with internal departments on communication for events and programmes
5. Patient Rights and Complaints Management
- Promote patient rights in line with Batho Pele principles
- Monitoror adherence to proper management of patient complaints, compliments, and suggestions
- Support feedback mechanisms that enhance patient experience
- Provide communication support to improve service delivery responsiveness
6. Stakeholder Relations
- Strengthen relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Liaise with district offices, government departments, and community structures
- Support partnerships that enhance healthcare delivery and public trust
- Facilitate communication between management and stakeholders
