About the Role
We are seeking two dedicated Medical Officers to join the Obstetrics & Gynaecology team at Osindisweni District Hospital. This is a vital role in ensuring high-quality maternal healthcare, emergency interventions, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive clinical services in the Obstetrics & Gynaecology department
- Perform and manage obstetric and gynaecological emergencies and surgical procedures (e.g., C-sections, minor gynaecological operations)
- Ensure ethical, patient-centred care
- Participate in quality assurance initiatives including audits, morbidity and mortality reviews
- Maintain accurate patient records in compliance with ethical and legal standards
- Engage in training, mentorship, and capacity building within the department
- Participate in Quality Improvement Programs and after-hour services
- Mandatory participation in Group 3 commuted overtime
Requirements
- MBCHB or equivalent medical qualification
- Must be currently registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner
- Grade 1: No experience required post-registration with HPCSA. Foreign-qualified applicants must have at least 1 year of relevant experience and be exempt from community service.
- Grade 2: Minimum of 5 years’ experience post-registration with HPCSA (or 6 years for foreign-qualified exempted applicants)
- Grade 3: Minimum of 10 years’ experience post-registration with HPCSA (or 11 years for foreign-qualified exempted applicants)

Knowledge & Competencies
- Sound knowledge in Women’s health and reproductive care
- Obstetric emergencies and gynaecological procedures
- Health policies, clinical protocols, and medical ethics
- Strong decision-making, leadership, mentoring, communication, teamwork, and research skills
- Ability to function effectively in high-pressure environments with cross-functional teams
