Salary: Grade 1: R1 156 308 – R1 227 255 per annum, Grade 2: R1 322 100 – R1 403 235 per annum & Grade 3: R1 534 356 – R1 918 284 per annum
All-inclusive package: 70% basic + 30% flexible portion
Additional Benefits: 18% Inhospitable Allowance & Commuted Overtime (as per service delivery needs)

About the Role
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health is seeking a Medical Specialisti n Trauma & Emergency to join the team at General Justice Gizenga Mpanza Regional Hospital. This critical role involves delivering high-quality clinical emergency care, contributing to staff training and development, supporting quality improvement, and promoting excellence in the field of Emergency Medicine.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Head of Clinical Unit in leading Emergency Medicine Services
- Develop and implement clinical management protocols and departmental policies
- Provide specialist-level emergency clinical care and oversight
- Support quality improvement through clinical audits, morbidity & mortality reviews, and documentation
- Train and supervise registrars, junior doctors, nurses, and other staff
- Conduct and supervise medical research and registrar projects
- Participate in outreach and teaching programmes
- Uphold clinical, ethical, and professional standards
- Note: Commuted overtime is compulsory based on institutional needs
Minimum Requirements
- MBChB or equivalent medical degree
- Must be registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Specialist in Trauma & Emergency (or equivalent recognized by Foreign Health Professional Councils where applicable)
- Grade 1: 1 year relevant post-specialist registration experience
- Grade 2: 5 years post-registration (or 6 years for foreign-qualified specialists not required to perform community service)
- Grade 3: 10 years post-registration (or 11 years for foreign-qualified specialists not required to perform community service)
