About the Role
Grey’s Hospital is seeking an Assistant Manager of Nursing (Speciality – Orthopaedics/Ophthalmology) to oversee and manage nursing services in the Orthopaedics/Ophthalmology and Surgical Units. The successful candidate will ensure high-quality care and safety standards while providing a therapeutic environment for staff, patients, and the public.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organise, and monitor objectives for the Orthopaedics/Ophthalmology and Surgical units.
- Provide effective communication to patients, families, multidisciplinary team members, and stakeholders.
- Ensure high-quality nursing care in Orthopaedics/Ophthalmology and Surgical services.
- Supervise and manage resources, ensuring cost containment and optimal resource utilisation.
- Coordinate training and research to improve nursing services.
- Manage staff performance through the performance management system.
- Instil professionalism, discipline, and work ethic among employees.
- Develop strategies to ensure compliance with quality care, infection prevention, and control (IPC) programs.
- Provide support to nursing services, including assisting with relief duties.
Requirements
- Grade 12 Certificate.
- Degree/Diploma in General Nursing.
- Post Basic Qualification in Orthopaedic Nursing Science or Ophthalmology Nursing Science (1-year accredited program).
- Minimum of 10 years of experience as a Professional Nurse registered with SANC.
- At least 6 years of experience in the specific speciality (Orthopaedics/Ophthalmology).
- At least 3 years of experience at a management level (e.g., Operational Manager).
- Current Registration with SANC (2025 receipt)
- Knowledge of nursing care processes, nursing statutes, legal frameworks (Nursing Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, etc.)
- Leadership and organisational abilities, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal, conflict-handling, and counselling skills.
- Basic computer skills.
